On August 5, 2011, Gavin Andresen sent an email discussing security testing on the Bitcoin network. He mentioned that an attacker could identify the node that first broadcasted a transaction and that recipients rebroadcast transactions, potentially exposing the sender and recipient. Drawok suggested using UDP packets with spoofed sender addresses as a solution, which has the benefit of being able to open an "inbound" UDP port on almost any NAT router without UPNP magic. However, this method requires special privileges to spoof sender addresses and some ISPs might filter out packets with non-matching sender addresses. Overall, it seems that there are multiple security concerns regarding the Bitcoin network's connectivity and anonymity.
