The use of bech32 for invoice addresses and raw hex encoded pubkeys has long been a mystery. The specific code chosen for a sample testnet invoice is the result of an exhaustive list of 159605 BCH codes designed to detect 3 or 4 errors up to various lengths. From those, only codes that could detect 4 errors up to length 71 were selected, resulting in 28825 remaining codes.
