Upon reflection, it is concluded that trying to conduct a thought experiment in Lightning is pointless. However, a pledge can be made by anyone who holds coins on the Bitcoin blockchain without any cost involved for signing their part of the transaction. Transaction fees are only required to be paid by the initiator alone.
