ZmnSCPxj suggested that since the payment point and scalar along with path decorrelation require establishing a secret with each hop, it may be possible to reuse this secret for each hop instead of using a payment secret. The blinding scalar for path decorrelation serves the same purpose as the payment secret. It was also suggested that the first 32 bytes of the payment secret could be used as the ECDH for Carol to decrypt enc1.
