Bastien requests a first version of transactions with minimal changes to the transaction structure and update protocol, to ensure agreement and shipping in 2022. A new message in each direction may need to be added to avoid additional round-trips, but it's not that bad since no extra data is being added. ZmnSCPxj suggests adding `SIGHASH_NONE | SIGHASH_NOINPUT` or a similar covenant opcode, such as `OP_CHECKTEMPLATEVERIFY`, without any commitments or an `OP_CHECKSIGFROMSTACK` on an empty message. Alternatively, fast-forwards would avoid this by only changing commitment transactions once enough changes justify collapsing them. Whenever A wants to add a new A->B PTLC, it only changes the tx inputs of the other A->B PTLCs without affecting the B->A PTLCs. Payment forwarding is fast, and the "big" commitment tx is only changed occasionally to clean up claimed and failed PTLCs, moving the extra messages out of the forwarding hot path.
