Pieter Wuille proposed a concept on Bitcoin Talk in 2012 which was never pushed as a standard. The proposal suggested a Proof of Work (PoW) concept, which Slush found to be quite smart but pointed out that it wasn't bidirectional and didn't allow for conversion between mnemonic and seed.
