In an email exchange on October 24, 2012, Gavin Andresen and Jeff Garzik discuss the memory usage bounds of a code. Andresen asks if there are any current bounds on the memory pool size, to which Garzik responds that he does not believe there are any bounds. Garzik proposes to age-out long-unconfirmed transactions as a solution to the unbounded-size issue, but acknowledges that it does not completely solve the problem.
