Bitcoin Testing Project

Summary:

A member of the Bitcoin community, Peter Todd, proposed the creation of a Bitcoin testing project to validate alternate Bitcoin implementations. He suggested using BTC as funding for self-organized testers and offered to discuss this idea at their budgeting meeting. Another community member, Arklan Uth Oslin, expressed interest in getting involved in the QA side of Bitcoin development. Steve recommended creating a mailing list for Bitcoin testers to discuss topics without disturbing the dev team.Steve emphasized the importance of having detailed test cases and plans, using proper software for workflow and test case management, and selecting the right tools for the job. He suggested checking out Bettermeans for planning the testing project. Testers should start with basic tasks like downloading and running the software, syncing the block chain, syncing an existing wallet, rescanning the blockchain, and verifying the balance. Around six keen testers, including Steve, are willing to help.Lastly, Steve asked if he needed to join the Bitcoin Foundation or just go “lone wolf” to be involved in important discussions that would impact QA. The email is from Peter Vessenes, the CEO of CoinLab, and includes his contact information and an end PGP signature. It appears that the email was sent to the Bitcoin-development mailing list, which is managed by SourceForge. The email also contains an advertisement for AppDynamics Lite, a tool designed to help developers gain visibility into their production app's performance.
