In a Bitcoin development mailing list, Luke Dashjr has suggested adding a section describing how the changes interact with and change GBT (Get Block Template). He argues that making the version a bitfield contradicts the increment-only assumption of the current design. Instead, he proposes that GBT clients should indicate a list of softforks by identifier keyword, and the GBT server responds with a template indicating an object of softfork keywords to bit values that the server will accept. Additionally, the server will indicate the preferred softfork flags via the version number as presently conveyed. Dashjr believes this proposal is reasonable and asks if there's anything else he may be missing. Another participant in the discussion, Pieter Wuille, suggests using the mailing list instead of the gist to notify participants of new comments.
