There is a modern, open source implementation of the Bitcoin protocol called Bits of Proof, which provides a remote wallet feature. This product was launched at the Bitcoin2013 conference and is available on GitHub at https://github.com/bitsofproof/supernode. Supporting documentation for Bits of Proof can be found at http://bitsofproof.com. The creator of Bits of Proof is Tamás Blummer.
