Mark's proposal regarding a bug in the old codebase has been positively received. Although it involves a hard fork, step 4 can be delayed until the penetration of the new codebase is widespread. The proposed solution aims to fix the bug, notify stakeholders responsibly and give them ample time to react before moving on. This approach avoids codifying the bug in the protocol.
