A Bitcoin developer, Emil Engler, has suggested resetting the testnet blockchain with a new genesis block due to the current size and length of time it takes to sync. The sync took him an hour for around 1.5 million blocks, and the blockchain size is around 26GB. However, Bryan Bishop, a Bitcoin Core developer, responded that he doubts the reset will happen as Signet provides an alternative for configuring multiple separate private and public testing networks.
