In an email exchange on June 24, 2015, Filipe Farinha and Mark Friedenbach discussed the possibility of transaction broadcasting full-nodes lying about mempool size. Farinha questioned what incentive there would be for the majority of these nodes to lie. In response, Friedenbach posed a question regarding whether or not Farinha's mempool consensus idea could potentially replace proof-of-work. The context also includes a non-text attachment of a digital signature from 'peter'[:-1]@petertodd.org.
