In an email to Mike, Tamas Blummer discusses the issue with the current parser. The problem is that certain fields are conditionally optional, but if there are any subsequent fields added, they become mandatory. Blummer suggests bumping the version and making these fields mandatory from then on, which would be backward compatible and cleaner moving forward.
