Summary:

Pieter proposes a BIP for 64-byte elliptic curve Schnorr signatures, which uses the same curve as currently used in ECDSA. The proposed BIP is a draft specification of the signature scheme itself, and it does not concern consensus rules, aggregation, or any other integration into Bitcoin. Standardizing the signature scheme is a first step towards that. If accepted, more production-ready reference implementations and tests will be worked on. This is joint work with several people listed in the document.
