In this email exchange, Rune Kjær Svendsen proposes an alternative solution to the problem of transaction malleability in Bitcoin. Instead of trying to remove the possibility of transaction malleability, he suggests defining a new "canonical transaction hash/ID" (cTxID). Jeff Garzik, a Bitcoin core developer and open source evangelist, confirms that this is one proposal that has been made, but notes that it is not a complete solution for all transaction types. A link to the proposal on GitHub is provided for reference. Garzik works for BitPay, Inc., a company that facilitates Bitcoin transactions.
