The BIP70 process may not work smoothly in certain business scenarios such as the merchant canceling a payment request before it is sent or the customer deciding to pay by other means after the request is sent. A "Cancel Payment Request" message and a "Reject Payment Request" message could be necessary in these cases. These common business scenarios require a different approach than the simple "happy path" scenario described in BIP70.
