On the Bitcoin-dev mailing list, Aymeric Vitte asked whether anyone had considered the probability of obtaining a "valid" BIP39 seed from N randomly chosen words belonging to a 2048-word dictionary. The ratio is 1:256 for 24 words and 1:16 for 12 words. However, this ratio will be improved in the forthcoming SLIP39 standard, which can be found on the SatoshiLabs Github repository. Pavol Rusnak, CTO of SatoshiLabs, signed off the email.
