In a mailing list for Bitcoin developers, Ben West asked if there was any number or ID that could uniquely determine the value of Bitcoin. He also asked if there was any hash, address, or key that would allow someone to identify their own 50BTC or 20BTC. Henning Kopp responded, suggesting that Ben's question may refer to the private key of a user. If this is found, one can spend their funds and prove ownership. He recommended a blog post explaining how the Bitcoin protocol works, which may be insightful depending on Ben's level of understanding. Henning signed off with his contact information from Ulm University in Germany, where he works at the Institute of Distributed Systems.
