In an email thread, Runchao expresses concern about security issues in a protocol for a payment channel where Alice pays Bob a premium on the condition that he participates. The issue arises when Bob can arbitrage by broadcasting the transaction after the timelock. Alice cannot lock the premium using hashlock, and this gives Bob an opportunity to arbitrage Alice’s premium. To solve this problem, several studies have proposed creating an opcode called OP_LOOKUP_OUTPUT. However, ZmnSCPxj believes that no SCRIPT opcode can look at anything that is not in the transaction spending from the script. He proposes a new solution where the premium payment can be made contingent on Bob participating through a complicated ritual. This does not require the addition of an OP_LOOKUP_OUTPUT opcode.
