On August 20, 2015, Gary Mulder reached out to the bitcoin-dev community asking if a Bitcoin Improvement Proposal (BIP) was necessary to address the emergence of XT and its potential impact on the blockchain. The concerns surrounding contentious hard forks are briefly covered in a BIP draft available on GitHub. The BIP draft acknowledges that improvements are welcome and provides links to related resources.
