On April 3, 2019, Ethan Scruples suggested in a post on bitcoin-dev that mandatory UTXO (Unspent Transaction Output) commitments be soft forked into Bitcoin to avoid a growing Initial Block Download (IBD). However, Luke-Jr disagreed with the idea, stating that UTXO snapshots are not a substitute for a real IBD. He also highlighted the significant security implications of such a move and argued that the danger itself is enough reason not to add UTXO commitments to Bitcoin.
