In an email conversation on April 7, 2014, Tamas Blummer suggested that returning a bitmap of pruned/full blocks might be more convenient than ranges. However, he also pointed out that using a bitmap could result in high overhead and poor locality if it's used to advertise non-contiguous blocks. This is because blocks are usually fetched sequentially.
